A Meeting of the Minds
This unique partnership marks a bold step for both brands. Magugu, known for his captivating fashion pieces imbued with cultural narratives, brings his distinctive vision to the realm of interior design. Weylandts, long admired for its bold furniture and homeware, extends its reach into the fashion world. This collaboration beautifully showcases the cross-industry dialogue, highlighting the synergy between their creative energies and the importance of purposeful design.
Born into the world from an idea, the collaboration between Weylandts and Thebe Magugu explores the harmony between two creative forces through captivating craft, visual narratives and a shared ethos. The centerpiece of the collaboration is a bespoke Sofa and Duffel Bag, designed by Magugu and Weylandts.

The sofa, a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship, seamlessly blends Magugu's unique aesthetic with Weylandts' vision of bold, authentic design. Using a fabric from one of Magugu’s capsule collections, this Basotho inspired jacquard envelops one of the original Weylandts sofas: The Marconi. Using red leather details and twin stitching to tell the story of collaboration, the sofa and bag become physical representations of the exchange of ideas, crafts, materials, and methods.
The launch of this highly anticipated collaboration featured an event with a dedicated fundraiser. The recipient of the proceeds is Samuel Mofokeng, a promising student from Anna Weylandts’ alma mater, Design Time: School of Interior Design. Through designing with purpose, we want to foster a new approach of collaboration – one that will continue to inspire, uplift, and encourage the next generation of designers.
