A poetic exploration of light and shadow
A poetic exploration of light and shadow
Inspired by ancient Japanese design and philosophy, the Ginza Collection is a poetic representation of light and shadow. Embodying the lessons Anna Weylandt brought back from her travels, each piece is a tangible depiction of the profound philosophies that have shaped her journey. Through materiality, form, and design, these pieces communicate century-old life lessons.
Led by the values of simplicity and intention, Chris and Anna Weylandt look to Japanese inspired design and teachings for guidance. For them, travelling is about seeing the world and broadening one's horizons, but it is also about understanding a culture completely separate from your own, and being conscious of how these cultures come together to form a tapestry of knowledge and inspiration throughout the world.
In this collection, balance is not only represented in the considered lines and design of the pieces, it is also a balance of intention. Understanding the delicate bond between light and shadow, strong and organic lines, form and function, this is where the mastery comes to fruition.
Drawing from Kumiko, a Japanese method of woodworking, the symmetrical lines of the Ginza range bring a harmonic balance to the craftmanship of these pieces. Echoing the simple design of a Shoji screen, this technique uses precision to assemble wooden pieces relying only on the pressure of their joints and meticulous calculation.
Intentional design means finding purpose in every part of the process. From designing, to material selection, to craftsmanship, to the placement of the furniture in a space. With an obsessive drive to create a range that speaks not only to mastery, but to the intention of mastery, the Ginza is a testament to the Weylandts ethos. Each piece in this collection is a considered, purposeful, and bold evocation of artistry.
